NEW DELHI: Pakistan provoked India yet again on Saturday evening with heavy firing on Indian posts and villages along the Line of Control (LoC) in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir, the Army said.

"There is an unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistan army in Nowshera sector's Jhanger area from 1545 hrs on Saturday. They are firing 82 mm mortars, automatics and small arms. The Indian Army is responding befittingly to the enemy fire," Defence spokesperson said

This is the fifth ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops in the region, he added.

Last week, the UN observers group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) had said that they are investigating alleged ceasefire violations in the Pakistan occupied Kashmir, a UN official had said, describing the security situation across the Line of Control as "tense."

"We've seen the alleged ceasefire violations over the Line of Control, which are currently being investigated by the UNMOGIP, in the Pakistani-administered side of the Line of Control at Domel, Kotli and Bhimber, where the security situation has, indeed, been tense," UN Secretary General's spokesman Stephane Dujarric had told reporters.
